Ways to Improve the Speed of Your Canon Printer

1. Print Quality – If you are sick of waiting for your output to inch slowly out of the printer, one easy solution is to change your printer’s output settings. Methods will vary slightly by model, but basically go to the “Print” application in any program, and then look for properties. Select the appropriate tab such as “Paper/Output” or “Main”, and choose the “Draft” mode. You can set this permanently through the “Printers and Faxes” box in Windows XP by following the same steps.

2. Fitting More on a Page – If you can stand the smaller output, you can reduce the printing time in half by printing two pages on a single sheet of paper (both on the same side, not duplexed). This method might also vary by model, but try under the “Layout” tab, if available.

3. Connectivity – With inkjet printers, you may or may not have a choice other than USB 2.0, which is the fastest USB technology to date. However, if you have a network-ready printer (Some inkjet AIOs will be) you can connect it either wirelessly or via Ethernet cable. Of the two, Ethernet will be faster because of the dedicated link. Distance can have an effect on your printing speeds with Wi-Fi connections because the speed will change with the proximity to your computer. Try keeping it close for the fastest times.

4. Printing from Websites – Simple text will always print faster than graphics, and the more complex the graphics are, the slower they will print. If you don’t need to see the pictures from a website, then you can set your browser to load the pages without them. The site may offer a “printer-friendly” format, so look for that first. Otherwise, here are a couple of ways to change settings manually. In Internet Exporer: select Tools and then Internet Options under the Advanced tab, go to the Multimedia section and uncheck the box for “Show Pictures”. In Firefox: go under Tools, then Options, click the Content tab, and uncheck the box by “Load images automatically”. Once you have printed, you can always set them back.

5. Add Memory – Just as in your PC, adding RAM to your printer gives it the ability to do things more quickly. This is not an option you will find in inkjet printers, however with a good number of laser printers, you will be able to add on. It is not necessarily as cheap an option as it is with PCs. Check your printer’s owners manual or manufacturer website to see if in fact your printer is expandable.

How to Troubleshoot a Canon Bjc 85 Printer Problem

The Canon BJC-85 is a high-quality color ink-jet printer that can be connected to either a USB or parallel port. If problems occur with the printer, perform troubleshooting steps to identify the potential causes. In many cases, the issue can be resolved by completing the troubleshooting process.

Instructions

1 Run a print-head cleaning sequence if printouts are faded. Press and hold the "Resume" button until you hear two beeps. Release the button. The print-head cleaning process commences.

2 Run a print-head deep-cleaning if a print-head cleaning sequence does not clear up a faded printout problem. Press and hold the "Resume" button until you hear three beeps. Release the button. The deep-cleaning sequence will run.

3 Replace ink cartridges if printouts are faded and deep cleaning did not resolve the issue. One or more of the cartridges may be either low or empty.

4 Check the cable connections from the computer to the printer, if the printer is not responding to print commands. Make sure the cable is fully plugged in to both the printer and the computer port.

5 Turn off print spooling if the computer displays a printer communication error message when printing. Click "Start." Click "Settings." Click "Printers." Right-click "Canon BJC-85," select "Properties." Click the "Details" tab. Click "Spool Settings." Click the button next to the "Print directly to the printer" option. This option turns off print spooling.

6 Turn on auto sheet feeder if the printer is not automatically feeding paper while printing. Click "Start." Click "Settings." Select "Printers." Right-click "Canon BJC-85." Click "Properties." Click the "Main" tab. Select "Advanced." Click the "Quality" tab. Click the "Paper Feed" drop-down menu. Select "Auto Feeder." Click "OK."

7 Make sure the ink cartridge is properly installed if vertical lines on printouts are jagged or broken. Make sure the triangular marks on the cartridge and the cartridge holder are aligned.

8 Press the paper release button if a jammed paper will not come out of the printer. The paper release button is located to the right of the paper input tray.

How to Fix Error Code E13 and 1686 in Canon MX Series Printers

Error Code: 1686/E13

Description

The ink may have run out.

Resolution
1.      Replace the empty ink cartridges.
Canon recommends using new genuine Canon cartridges in order to obtain optimum qualities.
Please view the compatible ink cartridges for your machine using our
PIXMA ink finder.

NOTE -  Since the information contained in the fax may be lost if it is printed in this condition, the received fax will not be printed and will be stored in the machine's memory until the ink cartridge is replaced. You must manually print out faxes that were stored in the memory. You can change the setting so that the received fax is forcibly printed out instead of being stored in the memory, but all or part of the fax information may not be printed because of the ink out condition.
If the above solution has not resolved your error, please contact Canon authorised service facility.
