Removing Paper Jams - MG4120

If you can see the jammed paper at the paper output slot, remove the paper following the
procedure below.

Pull the paper out slowly.

Hold the paper with your hands, then pull the paper out slowly not to tear it.

IMPORTANT:

Do not pull the paper out from the front tray even though you can see the jammed paper
at the front tray. Pulling the paper out forcibly from the front tray may damage the
machine.

REFERENCE:

If you cannot pull the paper out, turn the machine off and turn it back on. The paper may
be ejected automatically.

If you cannot pull the paper out from the paper output tray, try to pull the paper out from
the transport unit.

Refer to [ Paper Is Jammed inside the Machine at the Transport Unit ] within this
webpage.

If the paper tears and you cannot remove the jammed paper from the paper output slot,
open the paper output cover to remove the paper.

Refer to [ Paper Is Jammed inside the Machine] within this webpage.

Reload the paper, and press the OK button on the machine.

If you turned off the machine in step 1, all print jobs in the queue are canceled. Reprint if
necessary.

REFERENCE:

When reloading the paper, confirm that you are using the paper suited for printing and are
loading it correctly.

We recommend you use paper other than A5 sized one to print documents with photos or
graphics; otherwise, the printout may curl and cause paper exit jams.

If you cannot remove the paper or the paper tears inside the machine, or if the paper jam
error continues after removing the paper, contact the service center.

Paper Is Jammed inside the Machine at the Transport Unit

Stand the machine with the right side facing down.

If you can see the jammed paper at the front tray, stand the machine with the front tray
open.

IMPORTANT:

When you stand the machine, confirm that the document cover is closed.

If a memory card is inserted in the card slot, remove it before you stand the machine.

When you stand the machine, hold it securely and be careful not to hit it on a hard object.

Push the open lever to open the transport unit.

(A) open lever

remove the jammed paper.

If you cannot remove the jammed paper from the transport unit, close the transport unit,
stand the machine upright, then open the paper output cover to remove the paper.

Refer to [ Paper Is Jammed inside the Machine] within this webpage.

Close the transport unit.

Plug the machine back in and turn the machine back on.

Reload the paper.

If you cannot remove the paper or the paper tears inside the machine, or if the paper jam
error continues after removing the paper, contact the service center.

Paper Is Jammed inside the Machine

If the jammed paper tears and you cannot remove the paper either from the paper output
slot or from the transport unit, or the jammed paper remains inside the machine, remove
the paper following the procedure below.

Turn off the machine, and unplug the power cord of the machine from the power supply.

Open the paper output cover.

Remove the paper on the front tray if any.

IMPORTANT:

Do not touch the clear film (A).

If the paper or your hands touch these parts and blot or scratch them, the machine can be
damaged.

Make sure that the FINE cartridge holder does not hang over the paper.

If the FINE cartridge holder hangs over the paper, move the FINE cartridge holder to the
right edge or the left edge whichever is easier to remove the paper.

When you move the FINE cartridge holder, hold the FINE cartridge holder and slide it
slowly to the right edge or the left edge.

Hold the jammed paper with your hands.

If the edge of paper is jammed near the paper output slot, pull the edge of paper to the
position where you can hold it with your hands.

Pull the paper slowly not to tear it, then pull the paper out.

If the paper is torn, a piece of paper may remain inside the machine. Check the following
and remove the piece of paper if it remains.

Does the piece of paper remain under the FINE cartridge holder?

Does the little piece of paper remain inside the machine?

Does the piece of paper remain in the right side or the left side space (A) inside the
machine?

Close the paper output cover, then reload the paper.

All print jobs in the queue are canceled. Reprint if necessary.

REFERENCE:

If the message about paper jam is displayed on the computer screen when you resume
printing after removing all the jammed paper, a piece of paper may remain inside the
machine. In this case, confirm that no piece of paper remains inside the machine.

If you cannot remove the paper or the paper tears inside the machine, or if the paper jam
error continues after removing the paper, contact the service center.

How to Troubleshoot Canon Printer Problems

How to Troubleshoot Canon Printer Problems

Canon is a brand of computer printers that makes commercial products that are available around the world. If you enjoy one of their printers at your home or office you may at some time experience some slight performance errors. These problems are usually easily fixed by following a simple troubleshooting process, which will take you just a few minutes. If you continue to experience printer failure or the problems become more severe, contact your Canon supplier for technical support.

1.     Connectivity Problems

Make sure that the printer is connected to a power outlet. The power cable should be connected in the back of the printer and to a working electrical socket.

Check that the wire from the printer is running to the correct port on the computer tower. The wire runs from the small, square port on the printer to one of the USB ports on your tower or laptop computer.

Turn the printer on. Much of your printing failures can be avoided by making sure that the power is turned on before selecting the print command.

Install any updates or replacement software needed to run your printer on your computer. You can get this software from the manufacturer's website and will be notified through your printer drive if there is something new to download.

2.     Feeder Problems

Pull out all of the paper supply in the printer and make sure that all pieces of paper are flat and whole. Any folded corners, crumpled sheets or torn pieces should be thrown away.

Check the size of the paper you are using and check the paper guide on the supply to make sure the paper is the correct size. The paper guide is the small plastic clip that holds the paper steady in the feeder.

Open the cover of the printer and make sure there is no paper stuck within the feed rollers. You should pull out the jammed paper if there is any, including any little torn pieces that may be stuck inside.

Clean out the feed rollers with compressed air to remove any dirt inside the printer and refill the paper supply.

3.     Ink Problems

Check the ink levels in your cartridges to see if you have to replace the ink. You can do this through the control panel of your printer software. If you don't know where to find these controls, just search your computer for 'printer drive'.

Open the cover of the printer and wait for the ink cartridges to stop in front of you within the printer. This will allow you to take them out and replace them with full ones.

Pull the cartridges out of the printer. The number of cartridges and how to remove them will vary with your model of printer, but usually there is a small clip holding the top edge of the cartridge in place. Just push this clip back and pull the ink out.

Pull the protective seal off the head of the new ink cartridge. This is where the ink comes out and when you pull off the seal it will allow the ink to descend.

Drop the ink cartridges into the printer and push each cartridge into place. If there are clips you will hear them click when the cartridges are in place.

Run a diagnostics test on your ink heads if your ink problems persist after refilling the ink. This will help you clear out the heads.
